Exercising is good for your body, but to be able to exercise hard, you will need to eat extra to avoid having a hypo. Your body consumes more energy (glucose) when you exercise, resulting in a drop in your blood sugar level. Sex is also a form of excercise. So, if you don’t want to have a hypo during sex, you need to make sure you have eaten. You wouldn’t play football or tennis without eating carbs either! So, when you’re packing your condoms, also make sure to pack your energy tablets for extra energy.

Fungal infections

Boys and girls with diabetes have a higher chance of contracting a fungal infection. Fungi love sugar. Due to your higher blood sugar level and the sugar in your urine, you’re more prone to fungal infections. For girls, the symptoms are itchy sexual organs and unusual vaginal discharge. Boys can have a similar fungal infection. You don’t need to have had sex to get a yeast infection, and you can treat it with ointments and medication. So, don’t walk around in shame – and remember that if you have a fungal infection there’s a good chance that your sexual partner has it too.

Contraceptives

It’s not a problem at all. If you have diabetes, you can use all forms of contraceptive. The pill is the most common contraceptive, but you can also use a condom or an IUD. If you’re ready for it, contact your doctor.
