Frequently asked question: Which method of contraception can you use if you have an HIV infection?

If you have an HIV infection, you should always practice safe sex using a condom. This not only prevents transmission of HIV, but also infection with other STDs. Using a condom also prevents you from getting pregnant and is therefore the best contraceptive method in this case.
Always consult your doctor or consultant first if you are considering using oral contraception (the pill). In some cases, cART and the pill do not work well together.
