Frequently asked question: What is a hyper?

If your blood sugar level is too high, then you have a hyper (hyperglycaemia). This can lead to different symptoms.
Hyper = too high blood sugar level
  • Urinating frequently and a lot and being very thirsty
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • You feel sick and miserable
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Reduced appetite; or rather being very hungry
  • Abdominal pain and/or chest pain
  • Blurred vision
  • Difficulty breathing, the smell of acetone in your breath
  • Dizziness
  • Diabetic coma (loss of consciousness because of too high blood sugar level)
